Explore Exeter

Exeter is modern and vibrant city, an enjoyable place for shopping with a large and varied assortment of retail outlets. It's easily accessible by car from the M5 Motorway and has good rail links and an airport.

The Exeter Maritime museum is the home to one of the largest boat collections in the world and is well worth a visit.

There are a number of churches scattered around the city and Exeter's Cathedral is truly magnificent.

This historical city dates back to Roman times and parts of the walls still exist in areas around the city itself. The architecture is varied, partly due to the fact that Exeter suffered heavy bombing

during the Second World War and because of this many of its original buildings were destroyed.

Exeter is also a great base in which to explore the Jurassic Coast of East Devon and National Parks of Exmoor and Dartmoor.

Topsham can be reached by foot or bike by following the canal from Exeter Quay, which is about five miles long. Alternatively it can be arrived at by bus, train or by road. It has been Exeter's main port and now you can enjoy boat trips in the estuary or down to neighbouring Exmouth.

Exmoor is one of two national parks in Devon, being the smallest, with the landscape somewhat different to Dartmoor. It does have large areas of moorland like Dartmoor, but also large areas of farmland. Exmoor is an ideal location for horse riding and pony trekking and there are a large number of stables in the area. It also has many public rights of way which are ideal for walkers of any standard. The coastline between Combe Martin (North Devon) and Minehead (Somerset) has some of England's highest cliffs.

Dartmoor is a large plateau of granite rock which is covered with heather and grass. It is situated between Exeter and Plymouth. It's a barren area of raw beauty, with the jagged outcrops of rocks, known as tors, offering great opportunities for climbers.

The moor provides excellent terrain for the experienced hiker as well as for those looking for a more sedate walk. Again, like Exmoor, there are a large number of stables on the moor for those wanting to horse ride and Dartmoor offers superb off road mountain bike trails. Access to the moor is generally unlimited, except for the Ministry of Defence firing ranges.
