Explore Honiton

From the M5 take junction 28 and follow the A373 for ten miles and you will arrive at the town of Honiton.

Honiton dates back to Elizabethan times and it is set in the very heart of Devon. It was made famous for its Lace making a century ago. The main street is about two miles long and has a variety of shops and cafes.

Honiton lies on the border of Devon and Somerset and is situated on the southern edge of an area known as the Blackdown Hills. These cover an area of approximately 330 square kilometres. In 1991 this area was designated an area of outstanding beauty. There are many activities available in the area such as walking and hiking, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, fishing and

golf. The airfield of Dunkerswell is a short drive away and here you can train to fly or enjoy a skydive!

Approximately five miles away is the pretty market town of Ottery St. Mary which is situated on the River Otter. It has a magnificent church which dates back to the thirteenth century and resembles the cathedral at Exeter.

Seaton is within a short distance by car, situated at the mouth of the river Axe. The trams that operate here are a popular tourist attraction.

The pebble beach, which is approximately a mile long, is backed by tall cliffs of red stone on one side and white chalk on the other. You can enjoy many watersports around the Seaton area, either on the beaches or the river. These include fishing and canoeing, or you could take a trip by boat. There are also many opportunities for walkers and hikers, either by the coast or on the banks of the river.
