Tiverton and the
surrounding countryside offers many opportunities for those wanting to cycle, mountain bike, walk and hike or horse ride.
The picturesque village of
Bickleigh is four miles to the South of Tiverton and is also situated on the river Exe. Places of interest include Bickleigh Castle and a thatched Norman Chapel, which is one of the oldest
churches in Devon.
Exmoor National Park is situated
within a relatively close car journey from Tiverton. It was established as a National Park in 1954. The terrain is hilly with an abundance of pretty heather mixed with farmland and open
moorland. There are wild deer roaming the area and the famous Exmoor pony run free all over the moor. Exmoor covers an area of 267 square miles and is popular area for walkers, hikers,
cyclists, mountain bikers and horse riders. With this in mind, there are a wide variety of stables located on the moor.
The coast between Combe Martin
(North Devon) and Minehead (Somerset) has some of the highest cliffs in England. The South West Coast Path starts on Exmoor, at Minehead in Somerset. It's approximately 612 miles long and
finishes in Poole, Dorset.
Wimbleball Lake, near Dulverton in
Somerset, offers excellent facilities for sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and trout fishing, either from the shore or by boat.
