Explore Lynton & Lynmouth

Lynton and Lynmouth are the perfect gateway for discovering The Exmoor National Park and the many trails it has to offer walkers, hikers, horse riders and mountain bikers.

Lynmouth itself is often referred to as 'Little Switzerland' such is its beauty and charm. The village is set in a wooded valley where the river Lyn entwines itself down to the picturesque harbour area before joining with the Bristol Channel.

This harbour is favoured by surfers, but only those who are experienced should attempt the break as it's rock strewn and has heavy currents. This should also be considered by those taking to a canoe or kayak.

Walk back up the banks of the river through the tree lined valley as far as Watersmeet, where the rivers of the East and West Lyn join or take the route to Tar Steps. Both of these routes offer outstanding scenery and are a relatively easy walk, rather than a hike!

Five miles down the road from Lynton is Heddons Mouth. Park the car (for free) here and either walk down the wooded banks of the river to the rock strewn beach at Heddons Mouth itself, or follow the National Trust clifftop walk to Woody Bay. This pathway presents some magnificent and breathtaking views of the coastline and surrounding moors.
