Explore South Molton

South Molton is situated on Exmoor's southern fringes and is ideally located for exploring the surrounding area.

It's a small market town which is now easily reached from the North Devon Link Road, after leaving the M5 Motorway at junction 27.

The town itself contains a relatively small number of shops, pubs and restaurants and is not far North Devon's main shopping centre, Barnstaple.

Exmoor was given the status of National Park in 1954 in order to preserve its wildlife and outstanding natural beauty. The area contains 600 rights of way, a mixture of over 400 bridleways, public footpaths, forests and open moorland. It's a tranquil place where you can walk for hours without seeing a single soul, a place to enjoy all

year, whatever the season. Discover hidden valleys on foot, or pedal the forest fire roads on mountain bike.

The area offers excellent horse riding and is a former Royal Hunting Ground. Whether you're a novice or an experienced rider, there are a number of stables which cater for all levels.

Anglers can fish the many streams and rivers such as Lyn, Barl and Little Exe or cast a line to the reservoirs of Wimbleball or Clatworthy. Alternatively try a fishery, ideal for the beginner, or for those looking for the possibility of an easier catch.
