It was from the
seafaring city of Plymouth that Sir Francis Drake and Captain Cook set sail on their courageous voyages to discover new worlds. With this in mind the area has, of course, a long
and varied maritime history. Plymouth is a Naval town, where a sightseeing tour along the River Tamar will allow you to visit some of the Royal Navy's vessels moored at the
docklands after their journey through Plymouth Sound.
Away from the history
and narrow streets you will find a modern and cosmopolitan city which provides excellent shopping, a wide variety of restaurants and places to relax and unwind.
It's not far from the
city to travel to the nearby National Park of Dartmoor, which spans for some 368 square miles. Here you will find barren
